This week, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld one of our most important and valued American traditions – the ability to open a government meeting with prayer.

I am pleased that the Supreme Court has affirmed that our nation's leaders may continue to ask for divine guidance before beginning their legislative and governmental efforts. As a person who has spent over 25 years in ministry, I understand the importance of seeking the guidance of the Lord during my time working in the state legislature for the citizens of Oklahoma.

In the legislature I have always fought hard for the fair treatment of people of faith. I strongly support the Supreme Court’s decision that takes an important step to protecting this right to prayer before a government meeting.
